Sleep Apnea

It is a sleep disorder and is characterized by the pauses in breathing during sleep. When you take breath, each episode called apnea. Standard definition of apneic event includes minimum ten second interval between the breaths. It is diagnosed with overnight sleep test called plysomnogram or "study sleep". A significant level of sleep apnea is clinically defined as 5 or more episodes in one hour of any type of apnea. There are 3 distinct forms of sleep apnea: obstructive, central and complex constituting about 84%, 0.4% and 15% of respective cases. Breathing is also interrupted by lack of some respiratory efforts in the central sleep apnea; wile in other apnea, breathing is also interrupted by physical block to airflow the despite respirator effort.

 

An individual with sleep apnea is aware rarely having difficulty in breathing, upon awakening as well. It is recognized due to its effects on body.
